Department of Medical Physics

The clinical activity of the Department of Medical Physics is focused on the safe use of ionizing radiation for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Medical physicists ensure that the radiation used in radiotherapy will always be of the correct quality. Each therapeutic procedure in radiotherapy is carried out in accordance with an individual treatment plan developed by medical physicists, based on the patient’s tomographic data. The process of planning radiotherapy includes directing the optimal amount of radiation to the target area, with the provision that sensitive organs adjacent to it should not be affected. Ultimately, before starting the therapy, medical physicists check whether the therapeutic apparatus will meet the expectations and will adequately reproduce the dose distribution in the patient’s body, as described in the treatment plan.

The Department of Medical Physics provides the following services:

  • stability control of devices for brachytherapy, teleradiotherapy and intraoperative radiotherapy in terms of physical and dosimetric parameters;
  • planning of brachytherapy, teleradiotherapy and intraoperative radiotherapy;
  • verification of dose distributions in static and dynamic techniques in radiotherapy – (quality control in radiotherapy);
  • inspection of specialized radiological equipment;

Cooperation:

  • Department of Radiotherapy
  • Department of Radiotherapy in Włocławek
